hola! strawberry jalapeño margaritas

May 11, 2013

Dear Reader,

I present to you an epic margarita experience. First, I must tell you I was inspired by this recipe from the loverly Domestic Fits that I discovered via NoshOn.it (cool recipe-to-your-inbox website). While her recipe is a blended frozen margarita and uses Sriracha, I decided to juice the strawberries as I prefer my margaritas on the rocks. I then wondered, “what would happen if I juiced a jalapeño?” I am happy to say this was a pleasant surprise.

I rinsed and trimmed the strawberries and juiced them in my Breville juicer. I wasn’t sure how pronounced a juiced jalapeño would taste so I started with one medium sized pepper. Upon an initial taste test I determined one wasn’t enough, but two was just about perfect. There was just enough of the jalapeño flavor with a slight bit of heat without any “burn”.

Once I had my strawberry and jalapeño juice base I added about five hand-squeezed limes and a few lemons. (This is a margarita after-all.)

The rest is fairly common sense. For each glass I used about 2 OZ of tequila and 1/2 OZ of Grand Marnier, over rocks. This is optional, but I chose to dust the rim of the glass in a chile powder/salt mixture.

You will need

  • 16 OZ container of fresh strawberries
  • 2 medium jalapeños
  • 5-6 limes
  • 1-2 lemons
  • tequila (I prefer silver)
  • Grand Marnier (or cointreau/triple sec)
  • chilepowder/salt (optional)

Let me know what you think! And how amazingly red is this drink?
