the footprints of 9/11

July 13, 2013

My experience on September 11, 2001 was most likely observed the same way as everyone else on that devastating morning–a constant stream of cable news. I was living in Tucson, Arizona a long, long way from the East Coast. My answering machine came on and it was the sound of my Dad’s voice telling me to get up and turn on the news… that I wasn’t going to believe what was going on. I didn’t–I couldn’t. No one could.

I live in Boston now. Having experienced a city on lock down after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings… I can’t imagine what it must’ve been like to experience those moments in New York as they unfolded firsthand. Architecturally speaking, the sheer magnitude of the World Trade Center didn’t really hit me until I recently visited the 9/11 Memorial this summer–even having gone to the top of the World Trade Center in 1990–it’s difficult to reconcile the foot prints these structures left behind.

Above are a few photos that I took this past June. Use the arrows in the lower right corner to scroll through.
