This is an illustration for Kingfisher Bar and Grill’s Late Night promotion I’ve been working on. Yes, I still occasionally take on some free-lance design projects.
Lately I’ve been inspired by poster designs from the WPA. Specifically, I love the screen printing technique and the simplicity of form to create a contextual environment.
To replicate the textures of these posters I rolled ink onto a flat piece of stock and scanned it into PS. I ended up layering several different attempts on this specific illustration.
Initially I was working on an image of a Kingfisher bird, but then decided it might be more interesting to reference the bird rather than show it. Hence, I created a feather and the rest wrote itself! Let me know what you think.

I don’t see it so much as a rip off if WPA. I think of it more like inspiration Instead. Great work
