2012 in review–and hey! it’s my site’s one year anniversary!

December 31, 2012

Ah 2012, is there anything you couldn’t do?

What a year! And…

Happy one year anniversary to my website!

Last year one of my New Year’s resolutions was to start a creative blog as an outlet for all of my many creative endeavors–wether it be concocting a jaunty cocktail or constructing a wooden garden bed.

I started David the Tornado with no expectations or specific focus. Over time, I spent a lot of time posting food and drink related content; however, in the past month I’ve been able to share some of my other non-culinary creative projects including learning how to sew and a song I recently recorded.

I averaged just over a post a week with 64 entries and had 6,682 unique visitors and 14,554 page views. My top three posts were all cocktail related with my pumpkin infused vodka taking the top spot with 2,563 views. (I guess I need to do more of these!) I was featured on noshon.it and had recipes shared on tastespotting.com, liqurious.com, healthyaperture.com and foodgawker.com. Not a bad start!

One of my favorite parts of running the site has been hearing feedback from complete strangers that found some of my posts useful.

So, what does 2013 have in store for David the Tornado?

To be honest I have no idea; but probably the thing I am most excited about is getting back to producing new music. One of my goals is to try and upload at least one new track per month. We’ll see if I can actually manage to do this.

I am also in the beginning stages of piecing together a web series that documents my time spent in various bands from over the past few decades. This is a monumental undertaking simply from the sheer amount of footage waiting to be sliced and diced. The film will be released as mini-webisodes–short and sweet anecdotes of all of the hard work that goes into being in a band despite little to no pay off. I have a working title, but I’m not ready to share that quite yet.

I own a few interesting domain names, one of which is fashionprescription.com. I’d love to finally do something with it. Any ideas?

The good news is I am feeling a lot of positive, creative energy and can’t wait to get started in 2013! (13 being my lucky number.)

Last, thank you to everyone that supported my site over the past year and took the time to read my sardonic dribble. It’s been a lot of fun to share, and in some cases maybe over-share, my creative ramblings.

Please stay in touch via twitter and/or facebook. Also, stay up-to-date with monthly-ish email updates here.

Here’s to a prosperous 2013!

Cheers,

David

Dave, congrats on the anniversary of your blog! Your creative energy and photography never cease to “wow” me and your witty humor is a refreshing change. Love reading your posts – always eager to see (and hear!) what you’ll write about next.

Suggestion for “fashionprescription.com” – Makes me think a daily dose of fashion and lifestyle-related do’s and don’ts. I regularly follow a blog called “Go Fug Yourself” (http://gofugyourself.com/) which is a fun blog about celebrity fashion. But, “fashionprescription.com” makes me think you could do something similar, minus the celebrity bit. I’d like to see everyday fashion do’s and don’ts, cool trends, urban wear, etc.

    Keep it up!

Thank you so much Christina! Such thoughtful words… means a great deal to this self-depricating soul. I’ll ponder your thoughts on the fashion Rx!
